Toxin Treatments
Aging is a natural, unavoidable process and is associated with many physical changes like facial wrinkles. Wrinkles begin to form with aging due to a combination of collagen loss and facial muscle movement through repeated expression. Facial wrinkles are most commonly noted in areas such as glabellar lines (between the brows), forehead lines, and crow’s feet (around the eyes). The good news: facial wrinkles can be safely and effectively treated with toxins to produce a softer, more youthful appearance on the face.
At Precision Cosmetics, our injectors are committed to providing our patients with unparalleled professional injectable services tailored to their specific treatment concerns and needs. This post will further elaborate on toxins and the specific brands we carry at Precision Cosmetics: Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau.
What are Toxins?
Toxins are also known as neuromodulators, neurotoxins, or tox and are most commonly used in medical aesthetics for both preventive and corrective treatment of superficial lines and wrinkles on the face.
Botox was the first toxin on the market specifically indicated for cosmetic use and has become a popular household name in the U.S for anti-wrinkle treatment. However, it is important to note that Botox is a specific brand of neuromodulator, not the treatment itself. There are four brands of neuromodulators currently available on the market in the United States – Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau – all of which contain Botulinum Toxin Type A, which is the active ingredient responsible for the results toxin treatment has become so popular for.
How do Toxins Work?
Neuromodulators work by blocking the nerve signals in the muscle injected, temporarily reducing or paralyzing muscle activity and inhibiting its ability to contract. As time passes nerve signals will regenerate, full movement will eventually be restored, and treatment will need to be repeated. Results are achieved over a period of 14 days following injection and typically last 3 to 4 months for most patients. Regular treatment with neuromodulators is required to maintain treatment results.
How much time is required for this treatment?
A typical appointment time for toxin treatment at Precision Cosmetics is 30 minutes long, giving you and your provider enough time to discuss your specific concerns, goals, and treatment plan. The actual treatment itself is relatively painless and takes only a few minutes to complete.
What are the Benefits of Toxins?
Neuromodulators are a popular and highly requested cosmetic treatment thanks to a quick treatment process, minimal pain, no downtime, and the results they produce.
The following is a short list of benefits you can expect to experience with toxin treatment:
- Reduction and/or elimination of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- A brighter, more rested, and youthful appearance
- Preventative aging
- No downtime
- Effective, safe, and enjoyed by all genders and skin types
- Results that last 3 to 4 months
- Safe and synergistic with other cosmetic treatments like injectable fillers, laser treatments, microneedling, and skincare
Neuromodulators can also be used to effectively treat conditions such as TMJ and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Speak with your provider if interested in toxin treatment for these concerns.
Note: If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, ill, or have any kind of skin infection at the injection site, always consult with your provider before treatment.
Comparing Neurotoxins: Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau – which one is best?
Though all three brands contain the same active ingredient that produces the results patients desire when seeking toxin treatment, some differences between them might be considered when determining which brand of toxin might be best suited for you. Below are similarities and differences found between brands:
Similarities:
- All are FDA approved
- All are effective at treating fine lines and wrinkles
- All contain the same active ingredient, Botulinum Toxin Type A
