What are Neuromodulators?

Toxin Procedure

Aging is a natural, unavoidable process and is associated with many physical changes like facial wrinkles. Wrinkles begin to form with aging due to a combination of collagen loss and facial muscle movement through repeated expression. Facial wrinkles are most commonly noted in areas such as glabellar lines (between the brows), forehead lines, and crows feet (around the eyes). The good news: facial wrinkles can be safely and effectively treated with neuromodulators to produce a softer, more youthful appearance to the face.

At Precision Cosmetics, our injectors are committed to providing our patients with unparalleled professional injectable service tailored to their specific treatment concerns and needs. This post will further elaborate on neuromodulators and the specific brands we carry at Precision Cosmetics: Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau.

What are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators (also known as neurotoxins, toxins, or tox) are most commonly used in medical aesthetics for both preventive and corrective treatment of superficial lines and wrinkles in the face.

Botox was the first neuromodulator on the market specifically indicated for cosmetic use and has become a popular household name in the U.S for anti-wrinkle treatment. However it is important to note that Botox is a specific brand of neuromodulator, not the treatment itself.  There are actually four brands of neuromodulators currently available on the market in the United States – Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau – all of which contain Botulinum Toxin Type A, which is the active ingredient responsible for the results toxin treatment has become so popular for.

How do Neuromodulators Work?

Neuromodulators work by blocking the nerve signals in the muscle injected, temporarily reducing or paralyzing muscle activity and inhibiting its ability to contract. As time passes nerve signals will regenerate, full movement will eventually be restored, and treatment will need to be repeated. Results are achieved over a period of 14 days following injection and typically last 3 to 4 months for most patients. Regular treatment with neuromodulators is required to maintain treatment results.

What is the treatment process like?

A typical appointment time for toxin treatment at Precision Cosmetics is 30 minutes long, giving you and your provider enough time to discuss your specific concerns, goals and treatment plan. The actual treatment itself is relatively painless and takes only a few minutes to complete.

Benefits of Neuromodulators:
